Black-on-black

Whenever I’m tired or in a rush, a black-on-black outfit is my go-to. It takes minimal effort to think about whether I’m going to clash, as well as looking chic and timeless.

Avoid looking dran by combining black garments in different textures and fabrics. This gives enough contrast to the pieces to ensure the outfit remains interesting – mix denim with delicate silk or chiffon, jersey with lace, or cotton with leather.

You can also get around looking like you’ve put minimal effort into your outfit by adding interesting accessories such a hat or statement bag, gorgeous shoes, or loading up on jewellery.

Also think about your silhouette; mix different shapes and scales to keep things looking fresh and fun.

Mad for metallics

Metallics in fashion have been a strong trend lately, and are a great way to incorporate a flash of shine and sparkle into your existing wardrobe. They look great when paired with neutral pieces, but can also work well alongside patterned garments – as long as they aren’t busy or colourful.

Shiny attire is regularly worn on more formal or celebratory occasions, however it’s also a great way to mix up your every day outfits; a silver pencil skirt, tailored gold pants or a bronze blazer work well with office pieces such as silk tops, shirts and blazers. If that’s not your style, there are great metallic jeans, fun skirts, and shimmery jumpers available to add some glitz to your weekend wear!gold-silver-copper-bronze-metallic-clothes-outfits-fashion

Tartan blazers

90’s style is having its resurgence in fashion right now – distressed denim, floral prints, and of course plaids are popping up all over the place.

Embracing the plaid trend doesn’t mean you need to go full grunge though, the timelessness of tartan worn in a classic blazer is a great way to incorporate this look into your wardrobe while still looking classy and put together.

The black watch colours are some of the most versatile, looking great with a button up shirt or a plain tee. Wear the look with jeans for a casual look, or contrast it with a bright skirt for a more dressy style. Because tartan is such a timeless pattern, it mixes well with small prints such as leopard, smaller checks, stripes and florals.

First impressions don’t always last…

When I was younger, around 16 or 17, there was a fad for white pants. At the time, wearing them (in my opinion) was the epitome of trashiness. I believe this was thanks to the likes of Supre, releasing too-tight, too-sheer versions which made the wearer look cheap.

Over the past couple of years however, I’ve come to realise that white pants aren’t the faux pas I originally thought… In fact when worn the right way they are a classic and versatile piece.

I’m thinking I will have to invest in a pair ASAP!
