101 Spots

Dalmatian print has been popping up everywhere recently, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. As Jenna Lyons now so famously said, “leopard is a neutral”, however sometimes you need a print a bit further along the neutral spectrum than the traditional leopard. Enter dalmation. This pattern sits somewhere between prim and proper polka dots and all-out animal print. The imperfections of the differing sizes and shapes of the spots keeps it fun while staying suitable for all occasions, from work to weekends. (And who can go past monochrome colours if you’re going for a classic look!)

Tartan blazers

90’s style is having its resurgence in fashion right now – distressed denim, floral prints, and of course plaids are popping up all over the place.

Embracing the plaid trend doesn’t mean you need to go full grunge though, the timelessness of tartan worn in a classic blazer is a great way to incorporate this look into your wardrobe while still looking classy and put together.

The black watch colours are some of the most versatile, looking great with a button up shirt or a plain tee. Wear the look with jeans for a casual look, or contrast it with a bright skirt for a more dressy style. Because tartan is such a timeless pattern, it mixes well with small prints such as leopard, smaller checks, stripes and florals.

Spend Spectrum: leopard print flats

Leopard print flats are right up there with a pair of black ballet flats in terms of wardrobe shoe staples. They’re perfect for the transitional seasons, and go with pretty much anything. With so many different style and price options available, it really comes down to a matter of taste. My favourites here are the Charlotte Russe pair, which I initially thought would be super expensive… It was a pleasant surprise when I saw they were only $28.50!

Because you’re likely to get a lot of wear out of them, it might be worth spending a bit more and getting a quality pair. However, if you’re unsure about something a good idea is to buy a cheaper version first (and with options under $20 there are no excuses!) and then upgrade to the ‘investment level’ once you’ll know you truly love them.
